The combined efforts of the Kiwanis Club of Arlington and our affiliated Arlington Kiwanis Foundation funnel between $90,000-$100,000 per year to the youth organizations and other community educational and charitable organizations primarily serving the children of Arlington or Northern Virginia. Our members participate in several fundraisers during the year to raise a large portion of these funds.
In addition, the club organizes a variety of hands-on projects during the year such as bagging groceries at the Arlington Food Assistance Center, reading to young children in the schools, providing dinner to a women’s shelter and ringing bells on behalf of the Salvation Army for a week prior to Christmas. In 2007, we wrote holiday cards to 100 Virginia National Guardsmen serving in Iraq and included pre-paid phone cards so they could call home to their families.
In 2010, we plan to add several additional service projects. We are particularly interested in recruiting new members who would like to help us with these projects.
